For those who may not be entirely familiar with lucid dreaming, it is the ability to remain conscious, aware, and in control of your actions within a dream state. With practice, (we highly advise against it), a person can remain in control of themselves while dreaming. Witches, psychics, spiritists, and many new age cults use it for what they perceive as good. Lucid dreaming is also associated with remote viewing, where people often have out-of-body experiences and can literally view physical locations around the globe in real-time as the body sleeps. Lucid dreaming is also used and has been used for centuries as a way to connect with spirit guides. These spirit guides take various forms and have many purposes, including Reiki healing. Spirit guides are often referred to by the lucid dreamer as helpers, supernatural beings that offer love, insight, and guidance to the person within their dream state. American Indians and other cultures around the world often make reference to these beings as playing a significant role within the culture. Those involved in this satanic practice will swear that it is good, helps themselves and others and that the guides have nothing but the best intentions for them.
Unfortunately, lucid dreaming is an occult practice from the pit of hell. Similar to Ouija Boards, the lucid dreamer is making direct contact with extraterrestrial/paranormal beings. As Christians, we know these beings to be demons, fallen angels, etc. God’s Word tells us that there will be false prophets and deceitful workers posing as Christians or good spiritual people. At the same time, God tells us that Satan himself deceives people by appearing to be good.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Because Satan convinces people he is good, we know all other demonic entities do also. There is a whole other dimension to demonic contact, than what we hear about the Ouija Board. We usually hear negative experiences with Ouija, but in lucid dreaming, we usually hear positive, reaffirming, and loving contact. Often time the people involved in the practice will acknowledge that there is a God because they frequently visit the spiritual realm. Some will even acknowledge Jesus, but only as a participant in the psychic paranormal world, not as Lord and Savior.
In a dream state, our conscious and subconscious minds are somehow intertwined. Most people would say they’ve had some sort of experience in the state between wakefulness and sleep. Learning to tap into that moment and control it is where lucid dreaming comes from. This is one reason why certain drugs, sedatives, etc., can induce a lucid dream state. It is also a reason why we hear about drug-induced out-of-body experiences as well as medically induced OBE’s. Yes, OBE’s are real and can be learned or induced, or even forced upon vulnerable/open people.
As Christians, we have a responsibility to pray for those who are involved in the practice. They are being deceived big-time, as most will swear on it’s wholesome goodness. These folks are in the spiritual battle and don’t even know it. They have first hand, personal and sometimes intimate contact with evil entities (sometimes other people within the lucid dream state), which is a hard cycle to break. As a matter of fact, it can only be broken through the Holy Spirit intervening in their life.
